Douglas B. McHenry, Park Naturalist at Big Bend National Park, Texas, has been selected for the position of Assistant Chief Naturalist in Shenandoah National Park, Su perintendent R. Taylor Hoskins announced today. McHenry, a native of Stillwater, Oklahoma, is beingpro moted to the position recently vacated by Donald M. Black, who was named Chief Naturalist at Joshua Tree National Monument in California. A second generation Park Service careerist, McHenry’s father, Donald E., was Chief Park Naturalist at Yosemite National Park, California, at the time of his retirement after nearly 30 years with the Service. The new appointee re ceived his B. S. degree from the University of Wyoming and earned an M. S. degree at Utah State University, majoring in zoology, botany, and entomolo gy. During the Korean War, he was a helicopter pilot with the U. S. Army.
