Service Award
R. Taylor Hoskins, Superintendent of Shenandoah National Park, was among 35 employees of the Interior Department who were presented awards Tuesday for Distinguished Service the Department's highest honor. The presentation was made by Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. Udall in Washington, D. C. The citation was made in recognition of outstanding contributions to management of major National Parks within the National Park System. Following his initial appointment with the National Park Service on April 1, 1931, Mr. Hoskins served at several major National Park area. As Assistant Chief Ranger at Shenandoah National Park, his tactful approach to the delicate job of removing mountain settlers and squatters from Park lands was a major achievement in bringing the Park to a full-fledged operation. At Mammoth Cave, he directed the Park through its major periods of expansion and construction, and established friendly relations with neighbors around the Park, many of whom had been hostile to Federal operation of the
