Proper Precautions
Help in Lambing
The losses of many lambs each year in Virginia could be prevented if proper precautions were observed, said George A. Allen, Jr., extension sheep specialist at Virginia Tech. Each lost lamb, he pointed out, means about $25 less income from a sheep operation. He said closer attention to rrianagement details could save many of these animals.
"For instance, don’t let ewes get wet near lambing time," said Allen. "During the month before lambing, keep the ewes near a shelter so they’ll have protection from the bad weather.
