Because the returning serviceman comes to his home on an individual basis, and not as a member of a unit, his return often is unnoticed by the community, and this is unfortunate,* he said; *and this is a major war, and those who have served and returned merit the full appreciation and recognition, of their home towns.* “An Operation Welcome Home is needed,* Marsh continued. “While little time remains, eventhrough the use of air mail, it would be appreciated greatly if community groups sent holiday greetings at this season to men in the field," he added. “More important, however, is to assure the returning serviceman that he performed a useful function for his country and for his individual freedom by serving away from his family, under enemy fire,* Marsh commented. “Veterans organizations and many civic organizations have taken notice of these services but more can and should be’ done to recognize the individual servicemen, when they return to their home communities, for the notable service they have given to the country, and to their own families by this contribution of a substantial period of their youth * Marsh said. “These men are due our individual and public thanks,* he added.
