WANT AN DDE A FOR AN INEXPENSIVE GIFT? Miss Katherine Habel, extension specialist, suggest a decorated yule log. Get a good log that will burn well and split it lengthwise so that there is a flat side for it to lay on. Collect some evergreens, pine cones, holly leaves, and berries. Melt some paraffin (be sure to use a double boiler (as wax can easily) catch fire if melted any other way). After paraffin has melated, let cool enough so that you can handle it. Then pile it on the log (round side up) and press the ends of the greens into it. Arrange a design of pine cones, holly, leaves and berries in the center. The finished log makes a cute gift to decorate the hearth until you are ready to burn it.
