A letter from Douglas B. Fugate, Chairman of the State Highway Commission, informed the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors that the bridge over Rush River just east of the Town of Washington would be left intact after the bypass around the town is constructed. The letter was read during the May meeting Friday of the county legislators. Originally the bridge was slated for destruction when the bypass should be completed, but citizens and supervisors had requested that it be left intact and included in the secondary road system of the county. Three claims for livestock killed by dogs were submitted the Board by Dog Warden Jack Bruce. All were approved for payment and included two calves, two ewes and a lamb.
Bids for rewiring the county jail were reviewed and the lowest one stood at $987. The Clerk and Sheriff of the county were authorized to accept this bid if the firm meets specification laid out by the power company.
