Would you know what to do if your child or a child visiting your home swallowed a poison or was poisoned?
If such an accident should occur, call your physician immediately. If possible, begin treatment while another person calls a physician. The nature of the poison will determine the first-aid measures to use until your physician comes.
For swallowed poisons, do not induce vomiting if the patient is unconscious; is in convulsions; has swallowed a petroleum product such as kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid; has swallowed a corrosive poison; or has pain or burning sensation in mouth and throat. If the poison is corrosive, such as acid or acid like corrosives; sodium acid sulfate (toilet bowl cleaners), acetic acid (glacial), sulfuric acid, nitric acid, oxasic acid, hydrofluoric acid (rust removers), iodine, silver nitrate (caustic pencil), give the patient milk, water or milk of magnesia
