ihe lown Council of Washington, Va. requested that the Rappahannock County Planning Committee also act for the Town. This met with approval.
It was noted that old papers of various natures which were stored in the attic of the courthouse might constitute a fire hazard. The Board appointed the already acting county Safety Committee aided by the Sheriff to investigate and clean up such hazardous conditions which they might find. This would include oily cleaning or dusting cloths, stored paint, etc.
A tentative report from the Budget Committee indicated that the tax levy for 1969-70 might be •' lower than the present rate which stands at $5.00. This is welcomed news, since the recent assessment will raise the tax base for the county.
Other facts revealed from budget comparisons were the increasing share of the county for public assistance. The county’s portion in 1967-68 was 20% and in the 69-70 budget the county will provide a proportionate 33%. The high cost of distributing welfare funds was noted also. It taked $30 thousand to disburse $76 thousand, according to state specifications.
