Localities Awarded

For Traffic Safety

The Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Company each year honors employees having outstanding safety records. This year, Stewart E. Brown, Local Manager, Front Royal, announced the company presented 30 Front Royal employees this award for their safety record during 1968. These 30 employees have amassed 297 safe working years and 207 safe driving years for a grand total of 504 accident free years. . The awards, which were presented to the employees, were in the form of gold, silver, and white certificates and are signed by Toral Duckett, Executive Vice President of the company. The presentation of these awards is made according to the number of accident free years. The Gold Certificate represents ten or more accident free years; Silver Certificate represents five through nine years; and White Certificate less than five years.

Mr. Brown stated that employees’ safety is the first consideration in adopting construction, maintenance and removal methods and establishing specifications for equipment, tools, and materials. He further stated that the company’s Training and Safety School has proven beneficial to the employes and that it is the employees’ constant awareness of safety practices which prevents the accidents. J. B. Compton, District Manager of Northern Virginia District, headquarters at Front Royal, Virginia, was presented his Gold Safety Certificate by D. H.
