Heavy at Night
Over half of all pedestrian deaths occur at night in spite of the fact that there are fewer pedestrians and cars at night than during the day. The two main causes of pedestrian deaths, which last year numbered 206 in Virginia, are improper crossing and improper walking along a highway. The two biggest offenders are older people and children, according to the April issue of the Virginia Health Bulletin, published monthly by the Virginia State Health Department.
