Many young people in Rappahannock will soon be leaving for schools and colleges away from home. We wish to recognize all of these students, so parents are asked to furnish us with the information who is going where, that they may be included in the lists.
Shenandoah Park
Opens Fall Season
Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins announced today that all essential visitor services in Shenandoah National Park will remain open throughout the fall color season. The Dickey Ridge and Byrd Visitor Centers will be open 8 hours every day during September and October. Outdoor campfire programs and conducted hikes will cease after September 1, but evening programs will be presented indoors at 8:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday in the Byrd Visitor Center at Big Meadows. The campgrounds at Matthews Arm, Lewis Mountain and Loft Mountain will close October 27. Big Meadows Campground will remain open throughout the winter, except during winter storms. Concession service facilities at Elkwallow, Lewis Mountain, and Loft Mountain will remain open through October 19. Those at Big Meadows will be open through October 26, Skyland through November 2, and Swift Run through November 3. The store and food service facility at Panorama is open year round.
