Program for
College Success
Each year, thousands of young Americans reach a low point in their lives when they receive notification via the deans’ offices that they have flunked out of college. In a new program initiated last year to save some of these “failures”, Mcnroe College in Middletown, Virginia offers a one semester course called “A Program for College Success”.
Tests are administered to determine the student’s areas of difficulty, and special work is assigned to strengthen his background. His classes emphasize writing composition and reading comprehension with concentrated studies in math, social studies, and foreign language.
Upon completion of these studies, the student returns to his original campus prepared for a second try. “So far, so good,” says Monroe president Howard Wilbur. “All our retreads are succeeding. Mostly it is a question of the individual utilizing proper study habits and disciplining himself to the actual schedule of studying.”
