*,The Glarke - Frederick - Page ■ Rappahannock Warren ■ 'Winchester Health District will participate in a massive assault on 3-day German measles, the killer and crippler of unborn babies.

Dr. L. A. Dickerson, Health Director, announced today that there are 6000 children in the priority age group in these localities. Parents of children, kindergarten through third grade, will receive a permission form for each child which they must sign and return to school in order for the child to receive the immunization.

Dr. Dickerson stated that over 175,000 Virginia children have received the new rubella vaccine in mass programs since December 1. The vaccine was licensed just last June after three-and-one-half years of thorough testing. Unfortunately the scientific name for German measles, rubella, is similar to the scientific name for old-fashioned 10-day measles, which is rubeola. Vaccine for old-fashioned measles has been available for a number of years.

Dr. Dickerson commented that we are racing against the clock as health authorities say that a rubella epidemic could occur this year or next.
