. You may have noticed the proposed changes in the game laws affecting Rappahannock County published in last week’s paper.
Here briefly is what they mean to us locally. The proposal on quail simply means it will be legal to hunt quail with snow on the ground. In the past the snow regulation has been left on quail to give them added protection during a period when they were suffering the natural hardship of impaired movement, difficulty in finding food and grit, and the extreme cold that accompanies snow. Also on the snow, quail are more easily taken by predators both natural and human. I don’t see where these conditions have changed.
