Business Firms
How many business firms are there in Rappahannock County? How many people do they employ? How large is their payroll?
The answers to these questions are contained in a new tabulation of the nation’s business population--county-bycounty-made by the Census Bureau in collaboration with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
Given in the report, for each section of the country, are comparable figures on the number of local businesses engaged in retail trade, manufacturing, wholesale trade, finance, insurance, services and other branches of industry.
It shows that Rappahannock County, for its size, is well-equipped with business establishments, with a total of 76 in which one or more persons are employed.
Of this number, 48 have 3 employees or less, 19 have from 4 to 7, and 6 from 8 to 19.
The figures indicate that small and medium-size concerns predominate in the local area, just as they do in most other parts of the country.
