has a few spots. Those small corners or ends of corn or wheat fields that are avoided because equipment can’t get to them, could serve a grand purpose if sowed in bird food.
Now is the time to get these places worked up. Seeding should wait until about the middle of May. The Game Commission mixture is somewhat limited. However, everyone interested should be able to get several bags. Anyone who will plant it is welcome to it.
Farmers who have land in the diverted acreage program might consider clipping that acreage right now. I have the word from the ASCS office that this will satisfy the clipping during the growing season requirement of the program. By clipping now, and right now, you would avoid breaking up any nests and then this Fall you could leave it, which would provide some food and cover for wildlife.
