Guy Burke
■ Guy Burke, 72, of Washington, Va. died April 15, 1970 in the University of Virginia Hospital. A life-long resident of Rappahannock County, he was the son of the late Charles Lewis and Bessie Jenkins Burke. He served as Deputy Sheriff and jailer of Rappahannock for 23 years prior to his retirement in 1963. Mr. Burke was a member of the Washington Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janie Evans Burke of Washington, Va.; a son, Trenton C. Burke of Culpeper, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Shenk of Luray and Mrs. Frank Christaldi of Wildwood, New Jersey; seven brothers, Judd Burke of Flint Hill, Gabe Burke and Charles Burke, both of Washington, Va., Raymond Burke of Front Royal, Isaiah Burke of Berryville, Asa Burke of Denver, Colorado and Winston Burke of Staunton. Two grandsons also survive. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Washington Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ray Williams. Burial was in Washington Masonic Cemetery. Active and honorary pallbears were nephews of Mr. Burke. Clore Funeral Home was in charge.
