In the case of dependent parents benefits they are payable at age 62, to parents who were dependent upon a deceased son or daughter for at least one half of their support. Usually the one year period prior to the son or daughter’s death is used to establish how much support was furnished. However, if a son or daughter is determined to be under a disability by the Social Security Administration, the year prior to the beginning of the disability may be considered in determining the amount of support furnished the parents.
