wnen i was mucn younger ana was dabbling in philosophy, my teacher told me to put a pad and pencil by my bed: that some of our best thoughts came to us in that manner and we might want to record them. Well, the other night I was thinking of a former pastor and his ability to remember the names of his flock. He was loved by all the men and possibly by some of the women, I couldn’t say. Some did, say.
There was a widow that was the church secretary at that time. She was old enough to be the pastor’s mother, but she was a beautiful woman. She could have been an advertisement for youth cosmetics. Gossip? Oh yes. Then we hired a new secretary, a widow of an army officer who was killed in WW2. She needed the job, she had a young son to support. She was not as pretty as the first lady but so much younger. Gossip? Oh my yes. It was not long after this that the Lord called our beloved pastor to another field, and at almost twice the salary we were paying him. That church has never had a pastor that compared with this man since. “How great a fire a little flame can kindle.’’
While I was wooing the muse these thoughts came to me ■
Don’t you think it’s awfl’y sad
That all you hear ’bout others is bad?
I’ll tell you something (I don’t think it’s true)
I just heard something good about you. re
