Just what would the line do for Rappahannock customers? Nothing that can’t be done more cheaply, reliably and without the destruction of property values and scenic beauty. Reliable service to Rappahannock County can be provided for many years using only the present distribution wire if Potomac Edison will obtain its power from VEPCO.
How long will the line be? A little over 30 miles, about 22 miles through the center of Rappahannock’s imcomparable natural beauty. What kind of structures would be used? Potomac Edison has still refused to state other than “the first 23 miles would be built with wooden poles in ‘H-Frame’ construction” and “the last 7 miles would be double circuit steel towers for a future second circuit”. In nearly all cases where a power company has built a high-voltage transmission line on wooden towers, it has soon replaced them with the permanent steel towers.
