They are the eyes of Miss Debbie Shelton of Norfolk, Va., who is reigning this year as Miss U. S. A.

In a recent speaking engagement before the Southside Lions Club in Chesapeake, Va. Miss Shelton surprised her audience by turning her remarks to the eye donor program sponsored by Virginia Lions.

Expressing her admiration of the state Lions members for their dedication to this program of sight restoration for the blind, Miss Shelton said that she would like to submit her signed donor pledge card, through the Lions, to the Old Dominion Eye Bank.

Some ten percent of those who are blind can be given sight by the transplantation of the cornea, the lens-like “window” of the eyfe, from the eyes of a recently deceased persoji to the eyes of the blind individual.

This very successful program is operated in this area with the complete financial' support of Lions Clubs. Lions members are also very active in soliciting eye-donor pledges,. inasmuch as the demand for human eye tissue for such operations is much greater than the available supply.
