Some changes were made in the Rappahannock Angus Feeder Calf Sale requirements that should be of interest to many county feeder calf producers.
During their annual banquet meeting, members voted to change the name of the sale to the Rappahannock Feeder Calf Sale Association and to expand the sale to include not only Angus but Hereford and cross bred calves of strictly beef breeding.
After considerable discussion, it was decided to accept both unvaccinated and Bangs vaccinated heifers in the sale. These heifers will be penned and sold together but will be identified by different colored metal ear tags.
The average steer in last fall’s sale weighed 484 pounds, brought 36.41 per cwt. and sold for a total of $176.27 per head. The average heifer weighed 466 pounds, brought 29.57 per pound and sold for $129.15 per head.
Regular market watchers agreed that prices received at the Rappahannock Sale were from 3 to 6 cents per pound, or from $12 to $24 per head over the regular market price.
Officers reelected for 1971 were Newbill Miller, President, Jim Yates, Vice President and Sale Manager, Mrs. Lois D. Snead, Secretary and Treasurer, and directors - Weldon Burke, Ned JohnSbn and Ike Parrish.
