Annual License
Renewals Mailed
1971 Virginia State license applications went into the mail February 11 at the Division of Motor Vehicles Central Office in Richmond. Plates go on sale Monday, March 15.
All vehicle owners are reminded that DMV has mailed 1971 applications to all known vehicle owners who had 1970 license plates in their name. Application cards were mailed to all addresses of record.
The issuance of annual license tags is one of the biggest production jobs in State Government. The very short period of time in which it is accomplished makes license tag renewal one of the most difficult jobs. For this reason, it is necessary to start printing the 2.4 million renewal applications with each individual’s name and address on January 2nd of each year. While this is going on, people are buying and selling vehicles. These people should receive two applications, one for the vehicle owned prior to January 2, 1971 and one for any vehicle purchased between late December and April, 1971.
Vehicle owners who have not kept DMV posted with correct addresses may not receive renewal applications.
