River Clean-up Set
For February 21
In an effort to clean up a portion of the Thornton River, members of the Canoe Cruisers Association from the Washington, D. C. area will be in Rappahannock to pick up trash on the stream between Fletcher’s Mill and Rock Mills on Sunday, February 21. All interested groups and invididuals are encouraged wo help with this project. The CCA members will canoe this stretch and pick up as much trash in and along the stream banks as possible. They will deposit it at predetermined places along along the way where it will be hauled away. Additional people either in canoes or walking the river banks could aid in this worthy project. Mrs. Ronald Reese of Baltimore, spokesman for the group, says there should be around 25 association members. Hopefully there will be as many local people interested in cleaning up this stretch of the beautiful but abused stream. The Thornton has been recommended for inclusion in Virginia’s Scenic Rivers program. It deserves to be treated as such. The group will meet at Fletcher’s Mill about 10 a.m., Sunday the 21st of February unless the weather prohibits it. The 28th is the alternate date. For more information contact Irvin Kenyon 825-3853.
