Dear Editor:
March is Children’s Art Month according to the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers. This is a significant step in the process of recognition by educators, parents and the general public that children’s art is meaningful, perhaps even deserving of a degree of merit and interest formerly given only to those strictly academic subjects - the 3 R’s. This is an audacious statement considering the fact that many people still consider art in the schools to be an unnecessary frill; as something to fill up time and to give teachers a break when they have no other important subject work to cover or as something that children do when it becomes
