Already research has shown the highly detrimental effects of DDT on certain bird species, and there are signs that DDT and other chlorinated hydrocarbons now have accumulated in our ecosystem to a dangerous level. At any rate, we need a great deal more research to learn the extent of the harm they are doing to our environment and to people. No, the situation, as Mr. Judkins says, is not that simple. But to suggest as he does that-mankind might be better served if our efforts were energetically directed to the elimination or control of poison ivy or poisonous mushrooms, he is really getting a little ridiculous.
