What is hell? The grave, hades, sheol, eternal punishment, fire and brimstone, separation from God? The ancients sought an answer. They reasoned that if there is a god of rewards there should be a god of punishments. The ancient Hebrews adopted this as part of their religion, calling their beneficient God Yahweh, ruler of the heavens. In some writings their god of evil was Lucifer the fallen angel, god of the nether regions.
One writer of the scriptures seemed to think that the punishment, or reward, should be commensurate to the deed, so he says; “As the stars differ in glory, so shall be the resurrection of the j dead.” This seems to confirm the doctrine of reincarnation, to which I heartily subscribe.
