At noon on Route 211 a half mile east of Washington at the by-pass exit a 1971 Plymouth operated by Barbara Henrietta Cotton of Baltimore, Md. crashed into a stop sign and flipped bottom upwards. The driver apparently attempted to make a right turn at a high rate of speed and struck the island and sign. She and her two children received bruises. At 3 p.m. the same day four miles west of Sperryvillfe on Route 211 a motorcycle rounded a curve, skidded across the road and struck an on coming car. Maye E. Morgan of Hampton was operator of the motorcycle and George Francis Hillyer of Bowie, Md. was in the car. Mayo and his wife were taken to the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville by the Sperryville Rescue Squad.

As Mr. and Mrs. Carrigan extended the invitation for the evening’s program, he said, “Attend church Sunday the Fourth of July and remember the blessings God has given us in this great country, then take in the wonderful program at Rappahannock Library in the afternoon and end the glorious day with rocket displays at Avon Lake. All are welcome.”
