SOME MINUTES LATER a resounding blast from a shotgun in the vicinity of the Cordle property indicated that the beast was not yet satisfied and still remained on the prowl. Evidently the charge from the gun scared the animal and that is the last glimpse of the creature, to date.
That night really had its ups and downs: the bear was up and down from one house to the other and the occupants were up and down much of the night defending themselves and their property. “We don’t mind sharing the vegetation and the scenery, but not our,homes,” said Mr. Pillar.
On two previous occasions a bear had pushed out a window screen and poked its had in the Cordle boy’s room. How many bears are in the area is hard to estimate for the all look alike, especially when they make their presence known so unexpectedly, say the area residents.
HOMEOWNERS ARE alerted to the presence of the animals and advised to keep all tin cans, garbage, etc. outside so the bears will not attempt to get inside to get it. □
