Dr. LeGard continued las presentation before the Rappahannock Supervisors by warning that “in the next budget I’m going to ask for funds for a business agent, to free me for more medical duties. . .I’m not a busiriesSman, and I should be devoting my fiiil ftime to foe medical field.” . .V,.. (*
HE ALSO foresaw a need for better clinical facilities in Rappahannock,, “a facility the Health Department can work in.” ri- f -■
“This is the first time I have realized that the facilities are not adequate,” said Newbill Miller.
LeGard invited members of the Board to visit the clinic and see what he medftt; “We need a place where an undraped female wouldn’t be so uncomfortable she wouldn’t say where she hurts,” vyas the way he put it. He thought that $50,000 of local matching funds would be needed for the sort of facility Rappahannock requires. ’ ’■ •* _ ■ >•
“Culpeper put $40,000 in their budget until they had their half, and then built a $300,000 facility,” he said. “It might cost Rappahannock $10,000-$15,000 in escrow each year.”
Dr, LeGard emphasized that he wasn’t asking for such a Commitment immediately. “Just think on this with me,” he said. “I’m asking -for $5(1,000 over a period of time; Hill-Burtonh will provide the other half. Orange put up $6^,000 for a clinic, and the state pays them $3,600 a year rent.” h . ? , ,
SUPERVISOR Latham thought this might be a “good use for revenue-sharing funcls.” Newbill Miller wasn’t so sure. ‘ *!This enters foe field of private versus public medicine, too,”’he’Commented.'
