This past season’s near record kill was accomplished without the aid of a heavy snow ancL.in spite of much rainy weather.
ONLY ONE BEAR WAS CHECKED here and apparently the bear kill was down in many areas the past season. A total of eight turkeys were taken in the county; five checked at Flint Hill, two at Washington and one at Amissville. Two turkeys, one each from Fauquier and Warren, were checked at Chester Gap.
I would like to express my thanks to the folks who operate the checking stations in the county. These people who work in the stations and check big game give a lot of their time to this job. They do it at no charge to the Game Commission or to the hunters. Those who use the checking stations services might do well to remember them with a kind word. If not right now, at least next season when they stop their work to check a deer, bear or turkey as a free service to you.
There have been no hunting accidents reported in Rappahannock County. Rabbit and squirrel, season runs through January 31, statewide while quail and grouse go through February 15 throughout the state.
