TWILIGHT ORCHARD MEETING—Local' fruit growers are invited to a twilight meeting in the orchard of Captain and Mrs. Sharp on the Harris Hollow Road (Route 622) next Wednesday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Apple growers will be especially interested in observing the performance of Red and Golden Delicious, standard and spur, on MM 106, and EM 26 size controlling rootstock. Tree spacing is 8’ x 14’ and 12’ x 18’.
George Williams, Allan Kates, Marvin Bobb and Ed Phillips of VPI & SU will be there to answer your questions relative to crop prospects, herbicides, insect and disease control and other orchard problems. ; ,.
Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Rappahannock Farmers Co-op and Captain and Mrs. George Sharp. This will be a strictly informal, come as you are, brief question and answer get together. You-all come.
WOOL POOL—The Culpeper-Rappahannock wool pool will be next Wednesday, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Culpeper Farmers Co-op, Culpeper. Producers will receive 59C/pound for clear tied on pool day. For any information please contact your Extension Office. -
HOME VEGETABLE GARDNERS will be interested in two recently - revised publications now available at your Extension Office. “Grape Growing in Virginia” contains a description-of the varieties suitable for growing in our area and discusses site selection, propagation, planting, training, pruning and general management of grapes.
“Virginia Insect Control Recommendations for Home Vegetable Gardners” lists insect pests according to the vegetables they attack. Recommended insecticides, rate of application, and days between last application and harvest time are also included in the publication. □
