“IT S BEEN more than ten years since I rode in a point - to- point myself. Used to ride in ’em though. Potomac, Redland, Rappahannock, Piedmont...Go 'lack so many years it’s hard to tell. Then I began to get heavy and I didn’t have the proper horses.

“The best little horse I ever had, for a point-topoint horse race, was a little chestnut horse named Red Sailor that won so mapy races for me. He won the Ladies Race at the Piedmont. Robin Redding Hunt rode him for me at that race. He fell at the sixteenth fence. I ran down and caught him. And she remounted and went on and won that race.

“Most of this, a lot of it, •Red Sailor won for me,” he said, gesturing towards the sterling cups and plates
