REP. J. Kenneth Robinson said at Timberville last Saturday that “the Federal Government, as the biggest of all spenders, is a chief culprit in the continued inflationary trend.” Robinson, only Virginia member of the House Appropriations Committee, added that “the best means of dealing with inflation, if one is in Congress, is to try to chop away at the budget, with the hope of saving ten million here and fifty million there.”
Noting that the budget submitted by President Nixon was above 300 billion dollars for the first time in history, Robinson commented:
“I don’t like the total of this budget any better than I like the total of any of the three preceding budgets with respect to which I have been called upon to vote since going to Congress.”
