to-point association has started a point race for hurdles, similar to the timber races of the Seven Corners. The First Colony trophy. This is causing a lot of interest. Just as many horses over hurdles these days as over timber.
“Then we have the hound race. Years ago, Casanova used to have a hound race, but they stopped so Rappahannock followed in their steps. No Hunt Clubs are allowed, just the local farmers enter their good huntin’ dogs.
“We have about 70 entered this year. You watch] Some will leave the drag off after a wild fox, or a deer, maybe. And they stay gone a day or two. Farmers have to climb the mountain back of the course, looking for those dogs...
“A bunch of us in the club laid the course out. Fletcher, DeBergh, Kuncewicz, Fannon, myself. I’ve been chairman for five years. It’s about time for me to give it up, I know. The time is coming when I can’t do it. Some of these younger men will take it. I’ve served my apprenticeship...
