Donald Bomberger next presented the ‘‘no confidence” resolution from the 45 teachers.
No Concern For Students
“Speaking as a member of the Board, I am indeed sorry that the Rappahannock Educational Association feels they have no confidence in the School Board,” Mrs. Massie responded. But, she added, “until tonight the teachers have not said they were concerned or shown love for the children or demonstrated positive action for working with the School Board.”
“There's no need for the School Board to hassle every time something’s brought up that doesn't sit well with the teachers,” she continued. We don't sit up here because we like the job (but) because we’re interested in education for Rappahannock’s children.” Being a School Board member is not a prestigious job nor is it monetarily rewarding, Mrs. Massie added.
“I’m sorry that budget time is the only time that teachers are aware of the problems we face,” she said, adding that involvement between the teachers and the Board should be an ongoing process.”
"I've attended each session of the School Board this year.” countered elementary teacher Mollie Hobson. “I resent being lumped into your opinion that the teachers haven't shown any concern for the children.”
