Dr. McDaniel left work in public schools in 1975 to be sales and marketing manager for Borg Warner Educational Systems, a Chicago based firm. His position there required a great deal of traveling. “I was on the road half the nights of the year,” he said. "As a family person, I got tired of that awfully fast.”
When he heard of the opening for assistant superintendent in Rappahannock, Dr. McDaniel said he saw the job as a worthwhile position that would enable him to be involved in curriculum. Dissatisfied with traveling excessively, he wanted to move to either Virginia or North Carolina where he and his wife have both family and friends.
