With the start of school set for September 8, Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly has announced the appointment of six new teachers to the faculty, the introduction of new programs and courses of study, and the completion of some of the new facilities planned for 1978-79.
According to William Lynn, the school’s Administrator, the enrollment at Wakefield in Pre-School through the newly added 10th and 11th grades will exceed 200, with the largest increase of new students coming from Rappahannock County. The new Primary School wing, presently under construction, will not be ready for student use until early October, but other new facilities that will be ready include a science laboratory for the use of 8th graders, an art room, and an enlarged library.
Donald Bowerm aster has been appointed to head Wakefield’s mathematics department. He will teach Algebra 1 and II, IPS Science and Physical Education to boys in the upper levels. A 1967 graduate of Shepherd College, Mr. Bowermaster has earned graduate credits at the University of Virginia and at West Virginia University. For the past six years he has taught Algebra and science at RandolphMacon Academy in Front Royal and coached varsity football, wrestling, and junior varsity basketball.
