plaining that the new position would be classified in the same category as bookkeeper, secretary and other non-professional school system employees with salary in a corresponding range.
Board member Alan Stokes asked if it would be possible to share a coordinator with a neighboring county.
Bloomer answered that he wasn’t sure but he expected Culpeper and Madison Counties to hire full-time cafeteria coordinators based on the number of schools they would have to work with. He added that he would look into the possibility.
Mrs. Massie asked for a motion authorizing the new position. Her request met with silence until Masterson moved that the matter be tabled.
"Not reacting is worse than saying aye or nay," Mrs. Massie responded.
"That's not my intention,” replied Masterson, adding that he thought the switch to cost base accounting was good since it would "systematize the whole state...1 think we’re hung up on the person (to fill the position),” he said. Masterson suggested checking through the school system first to see if the county already had an employee with bookkeeping skills who wanted the job.
Mrs. Massie responded that she didn't think the School Board would be able to find anyone willing to take on the task for nothing.
“I didn't mean that,” Masterson countered.
The Board voted unanimously to authorize Bloomer to hire a cafeteria coordinator, stipulating that he check for interested applicants in the school system first.
