“Malicious damage" toppled the Vepco power line that came down recently near Route 647 outside Flint Hill, according to Frank Carmack, safety director of the Richardson-Wayland Electrical Corporation, contractors for the job of erecting the towers and stringing electrical lines.
Carmack said last Thursday that nuts and washers had been removed from three of the bolts that hold the tower to its concrete base. “They took them off on the windward side so they knew what they were doing,” said Carmack. “Washers and bolts were found scattered in the weeds 20 to 25 feet from the tower,” he said.
