family financial resources, to take part. They spend hours making necessary arrangements and reservations. Then they donate three days of their own time to chaperon students on the trip.
The excursion is fun. If it wasn t, the same teachers wouldn’t volunteer their efforts year after year. It’s also rewarding to see students who’ve been bored by the day-in, day-out routine of class work come awake at the living history depicted in Jamestown and Williamsburg. Even the children who are most turned off by studies learn something, almost despite themselves.
But the trip is hard work and awesome responsibility. And for their dedication, the teachers deserve the thanks and appreciation of the community.
