The annual Rappahannock-Madison Area Fruit School will be held Wednesday. February 7. at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria. The program will begin at 10 a.m. with a talk on cork spot and bitter pit control by G. E. Mattus from VPI
Sam Snead of Washington has arranged for a speaker on marketing and bargaining legislation at 10:30. Jim Chaftns and C. Purcell McCue, both from Staunton, will explain operations of the state Apple Commission and Horticultural Society at 11 followed by a talk on orchard mouse control from R. E. Byers of VPI at 11:30.
After a break for lunch (with the meal sponsored by Cheveron, Chemagro, Stauffer Chemical Companies and Rappahannock Farmers), the program will resume at 1 p.m. with a presentation by Keith Yoder of VPI on orchard disease control with particular emphasis on sooty blotch and fly speck. R. L. Horsburgh from VPI will speak on apple scale control at 1:30 p.m. and the program will conclude with a panel discussion on orchard sprays at 2 p.m., moderated by VPl’s G. R. Williams.
