The annual Flint Hill Firemen’s Carnival is scheduled to open next Wednesday, August 1, at the carnival grounds on Fodderstack Road. The opening feature is family night which allows children of all ages to ride any or all rides for one low fare.

Other events of the fournight carnival include the mamouth parade Thursday evening beginning at 6:30. The newly crowned Miss Virginia, Darlene McIntosh, will be parade marshal with fire and rescue units, bands.

Weekly Film

The free film to be shown at the Episcopal parish hall in Washington on Wednesday. August 1st at 10 a.m. will be “The Red Balloon."

A fantasy about a boy who makes friends with a balloon, “tames” it, plays with it in the streets of Montmartre and tries unsuccessfully to elude a gang of urchins who endeavor to destroy it.

The sights, sounds and moods of old Paris are captured. Winner of the Cannes and numerous other awards, this is a superior production by Albert Lamorisse.
