Scattered records make it difficult to compile statistics about farm accidents, injuries and deaths. Dr. G. H. Hetzel, Cooperative Extension farm safety specialist, maintains a statistics clearing house in his office and conducts safety training sessions with interested groups. OSHA keeps tabs on only 46,000 of the nearly quarter million Virginians who earn their living farming.

Since last July about 1,500 farmers have responded quarterly to a survey Hetzel designed. The first comprehensive statistics will be compiled this fall.
