Outstanding
Don Allen Deal and Francis Updike of Culpeper and Lyle Marvin Updike of Omaha, Nebraska, have been selected for the 1979 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America. Both Updikes are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Updike of Washington. Deal is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Deal of Sperryville.
According to the Board of Advisors for the Outstanding Young Men of America Awards Program, criteria for selection include voluntary service to community, professional leadership, academic achievement, business advancement, cultural accomplishments and civic and political participation.
The men were selected from nominations received from Senators, Congressmen, Governors, Mayors, State Legislators, University and College Presidents and Deans as well as various civic groups—including the united States Jaycees which also endorses the Outstanding Young Men of America program.
Meeting Notice
An improtant meeting for all boys interested in trying out for varsity basketball will be held Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at Rappahannock County High School.
