To the editor:
Our youngest child recently came home from school with a note telling us that she had head lice. Naturally we were concerned and proceeded to obtain medication. Fortunately a check by our doctor revealed no lice, but did raise some questions that we feel need to be answered.
1. What sort of training are the teachers receiving on how to check for head lice? (We know of at least one other who was diagnosed incorrectly) Possibly children who do have lice are going undetected.
2. Why is the financial burden of medication being placed on the parents? It’s obvious that most cases are being contracted at the school itself. Sending your child to school is almost like playing “Russian Roulette”.
3. Why isn’t the school conducting some sort of program to control this “epidemic”? When we say program, we mean immediate and cqftain medication at the school itself, not a note (possibly lost) home to the parents.
We understand that the school is on a limited budget, but certainly money could be

The staff of your county Welfare Department would like to thank all the members of the community who responded to the news article in the Rappahannock News of 10-25-79 regarding the needy family.
People contributed generously, both in goods and services in getting the clothing and household items' moved.
Thanks to your sincere efforts the family now has a good start and we deeply appreciate your help. Whoever said charity was dead!
