The principal or his designated representative should remain present during an interrogation of a student, but should not enter into the investigative procedure except as requested by law enforcement officials. The student's parent, and the Superintendent of schools or his designee, shall be notified as quickly as possible.

If the investigation by the school official or the law enforcement official leads to the tentative or definite conclusion that possession or distribution did occur on school property or at school-sponsored functions, then students involved are to be suspended for School Board action.

8.44 Use of Drugs on School Property

If a student, while on school grounds, the school bus, or on school sponsored functions, exhibits physical behavior or appearance which indicates that he may be presently under the influence of drugs, the principal or his designated representative will notify law enforcement officials and ask them to investigate. The student's parent and the Superintendent of schools or his designee shall be notified as quickly as possible.

If, in the opinion of the principal of his designated representative, the student is in need of immediate medical attention, the student's parents are to be informed and arrangements made to transfer the student to a doctor or hospital. If parents can not be contacted, the school officials will make the most apprioriate arrangements for the students' welfare. Such incidents will be reported to the Superintendent of schools and to law enforcement officials as quickly as possible.
