Should investigation by school officials or law enforcement officials reveal that any illegal activity, or use of drugs, occurred on school property or at school-sponsored functions, then students involved are to be suspended for School Board action.
8.45 Statement of Policy Concerning Drug Abuse
The purpose of this statement of policy in regard to drug discovery is to assure all parties concerned that responsible procedures will be takne if such need is deemed necessary. These procedures will be made available to all members of the staff and faculty which will delineate the basic rules for handling all problems concerning suspected drug abuse. All staff members at some time may be intimately involved in the discovery of the use, possession, or sale of drugs in school. The staff and faculty will follow the procedures set forth in this policy statement.
The Role of the Principal
1. The principal's first responsibility in the administration of the School Board's policy relative to drug abuse should be to properly review and interpret that policy to both his professional and nonprofessional staff.
2. The principal will have a knowledge of drugs and drug abuse.
3. He will keep abreast of all local, state and federal laws relative to the use, sale and possession of dangerous drugs.
4. The principal, or his designated representative, will be notified of all druge related incidents in the school. All students whose appearance or behavior seem symptomatic of drug abuse will be escorted by the teacher or staff member to the principal's office.
