On Voting
To the editor:
Traditional ethnic groups and regional areas with worthwhile heritage and cultures is wonderful to maintain.
However, when it interferes with the learning process of children and when it stifles the regional people as a whole, then I think its time for a change, especially when that change is for the good of everyone, and not just a selected few.
When I voted November 6, I was appalled to find Rappahannock County was still permitting voting by pencil and voting without even a curtained booth.
I take my voting privilege as an Anjerican citizen quite seriously, and I expect that vote to be protected to the best of everyone’s ability. Using a pencil rather than a pen and voting without any assemblage of privacy is not the ultimate in protection.
I am not proposing a voting machine at approximately $2,500.00 of the tax-payers money. I would rather have my tax dollars go into our school system. However, I do not find it unfeasible for this county to not only encourage people to vote, but to furnish them with pens and providing curtained areas for privacy, whether it be a local county ejection or a federal election.
