New judges in the predominantly Democratic General Assembly,, in practice, are chosen by the majority party caucus iti the state senate.
Earlier this month. Judge William F. Moffett Jr. announced his retirement, effective Feb. 1. from the 20th District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for Rappahannock. Fauquier and Loudoun counties. Judge Moffett, who has been suffering ill health, is a resident of Washington in Rappahann^Jtk County.

Great Whales
At Library
As part of its winter program, the Rappahannock County Library will present “Great Whales,” an hour long feature Film, on Tuesday, January 29.
"Great Whales” follows cetologists as they study the life cycle, anatomy and speech patterns of whales. It shows a killer whale giving birth, humpback whales wintering among Hawaiian Islands and grey whales migrating from the Bering Sea to the lagoons of Baja California.
The film also includes clips from the movie ‘‘Moby Dick," newsreels of whaling operations and footage of Greenpeace, a conservation group defending whales fleeing a whaler.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited.
